About Panchmarhi

Panchmarhi
has the privilege to be the only hill resort in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
This idyllic hill resort, covered beautifully with lush greenery in the
plateaus of Satpura ranges, is located at an altitude of 1067 metres. It was
Captain Forsyth who stumbled upon this beauty. It was afterwards developed
as a sanatorium and a health resort by the British. Two red sandstone
mountains Dhupgadh and Mahadeo Hills enhance the charm of the place all the
more as they reflect the bluish-red light thereby bathing the area with the
special hue. The rustling rivers, the mystifying waterfalls, the
intoxicating landscape and the diverse wildlife are the key attraction of
Panchmarhi.
Climate
Panchmarhi enjoys a moderate climate throughout the year. Summers are
pleasant and winters are cold. The maximum temperature during the summers is
35 degrees while in winters the lowest temperature records 1 degree
centigrade. The place can be visited any time of the year.
Major Attractions
» Catholic Church The Catholic Church was erected
by the British in 1892. The Belgian stained-glass windows attract hordes of
visitors. The church also houses a cemetery and some of the graves here date
back to 1859. Many of the soldiers who died in the World Wars lie here
buried.

The
Satpura National Park is another key attraction of Panchmarhi. The lush
greenery and the exotic varieties of the flora and fauna of the park move
everyone's heart. The flora of the park includes sal, bamboo and teak trees

caves that give Panchmarhi its name. These caves are five in number and were

caves once provided sanctuary to the five Pandavas.
