About Nagpur Information

The
town of Nagpur stands on the river Nag and is known all round for its
production of oranges. It was the centre of the Gond tribes who were in
power until the 18th century and the town is even today home to many Gond
tribals. It used to be the capital of the central province. Myriad of
Buddhists pour into the town on the 18th October every year to commemorate
the anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar's conversion to Buddhism in 1956. Dr.
Ambedkar was a law minister and had an important role in the Indian Struggle
for Independence. Marbat, Ram Navmi Procession, Durga Devi exhibition and
Ganesh Pooja are some of the popular community festivals.
Climate of Nagpur
Monsoon, Summer and Winter are three main seasons of the town. Nagpur faces
extremes of temperature. Summers are very hot and winters are very cold.
Temperature during the summer shoots up to 45 degrees centigrade. And during
the winter it drops down to 12 degrees. Monsoons arrive in the month of
June. July and August record maximum rainfall. November to February is the
best time to visit Nagpur as during this period air is calm and dry.
Major Tourist Attraction in Nagpur
» Shri Vyankatesh Temple - The construction of the
temple started in the year 1963 and it took 5 years to complete. The temple
was the idea of Swami Shri Dharacharyaji. The statue of Lord Vyankatesh is
built in black sandstone. Exqusite gold ornaments decorate the image.
» Sitabuldi Fort - The Sitabuldi Fort was built by
a British officer in the year 1857. Located on the top of a hill, the fort
is one the oldest structures of the town. The fort is the office of the
territorial army today.
» Tekdi Ganapathi Temple - The Tekdi Ganapathi
Temple is 250 years old. "Tekdi" means hill and the temple is
erected atop a hill and lies near the railway station. The temple is one of
the ancient temples of the town and is a must-visit for one and all.
» Tadoba National Park - Sprawling over an area of
120 sq km, Tadoba National Park is located at an elevation of 200 metres
above sea level. The park was declared a Project Tiger Reserve in 1993. Many
Gond tribals once occupied the area around the park. The Park is located 100
km south of Nagpur.

Nagpur has come up with a fair number of shopping destinations. One can
